Hey folks,
Earlier this year I purchased a JX-10 headset, primarily for its small size and lightweight. It served me well for many months. The only downside was that it was so small I would occasionally slip it into my shirt pocket between calls and forget it was there. Then I would scurry around looking for it on my cluttered desk only to find it tucked away safely in my shirt pocket. Well, early this past summer I misplaced it and could not find it.
After several days, I gave up and purchased another one. Before the replacement arrived, my wife called me at work and said she found it. It was sitting in the bottom of our washing machine. It had apparently been in a shirt pocket that had been laundered. She left it on the kitchen counter for me to examine it when I returned home at the end of the day.
When I got home, I immediately took a look at it – things did not look encouraging. Water trickled out of it when I shook it. Still, I wasn’t ready to give up. I gently pried apart the cover to expose the inner workings. I then placed the components on top of the exhaust vent of a PC in my kitchen. I hoped the warm airflow would gently dry out the soaked components. I left the pieces alone on the vent for two days then reassembled them.
The first encouraging sign I received was when I plugged it into the USB charger. The red charging light appeared like normal. After it was fully charged, I tried to place a call using my JX-10. The first attempt was terrible – static, crackling sounds. I turned it off and turned it back on. The second call went thru perfectly and has worked well ever since. The only residual effect is that the little plastic cover on the power switch fell off (probably due to the beating it took in the washer) so turning it off and on now requires a little finesse and a paperclip.
I recently purchased a JX-10 Series 2 to work with a Jabra Bluetooth hub and am looking forward to putting that gear thru the paces… but not the washing machine!
