Yealink BH70 Review: 35-Hour Battery in a Featherweight Headset

The Yealink BH70 is built around one idea: make a Bluetooth headset light enough to forget you're wearing it, without giving up sound quality or battery. It manages both — 35 hours of talk time and a 20% weight reduction — with a couple of quirks worth knowing before you buy.

Weight and fit

The headline feature is what's missing: about 20% less weight than comparable models, including Yealink's own. That's the kind of difference you notice by mid-afternoon rather than in the first ten minutes.

Two design changes support it — a 50% enhanced curvature angle and a 27% improvement in clamping, so it sits properly across different head sizes without gripping. Lighter usually means flimsier; here it doesn't feel that way in daily use.

Sound

35mm speakers on both the mono and dual versions, which is generous for the size, plus six audio equalizers for tuning output. It handles music as well as calls — worth knowing if the headset is doing double duty at a home desk.

Microphone: Acoustic Shield 2.0

Three microphones: two on the boom arm capturing your voice, one at the opposite end doing nothing but sampling ambient noise so the system can subtract it. The result is aimed squarely at fans, HVAC hum, and background chatter — the constant noises that wear on a caller.

Range and connection stability

The included BT51 dongle runs Bluetooth 5.2 and delivers up to 150 feet. The number matters less than the behaviour: earlier Bluetooth generations tended to fade once you put a wall between headset and dongle, and the BH70 doesn't. It holds through walls and alongside other Bluetooth devices nearby.

Battery and corded fallback

Up to 35 hours of talk time on a single charge, which is genuinely near the top of the category. Fast charging over the included USB-C to USB cable.

Voice over USB means the cable doubles as a corded connection — useful if you've left the BT51 behind, though with 35 hours you're unlikely to be caught out by the battery.

Controls and alerts

Mute by boom. Lift the boom to mute, lower it to unmute — and on a mobile call, lowering it answers. No hunting for a button when you need to mute for a sneeze.

Incoming call warning. A genuinely thoughtful touch: on mobile calls you hear "Incoming Call" in the headset *before* the phone rings. A second or two of warning is enough to put something down or step somewhere quieter.

Voice prompts announce connection state — "PC disconnected" when you walk out of range, "PC connected" or "Mobile 1 connected" on return.

Busylight on both mono and dual versions, with Microsoft Teams notifications shown in a distinct light purple. The BT51 dongle mirrors the notification colour, and the busylights can be toggled through Yealink USB Connect.

Mono or dual?

Mono for the lightest option and awareness of your surroundings — the right pick at a shared desk or reception. Dual for stereo sound and better isolation, still without the weight penalty most stereo headsets carry.

The not so great

Two things worth knowing before you commit.

It's an over-the-head design, even in mono. If you don't want a headband, no amount of weight reduction fixes that — an over-the-ear or convertible model is the alternative.

Re-pairing after sleep mode. Coming back the next morning, you may need to confirm pairing to your mobile device as well as your computer — press the pairing key for about a second and listen for "PC connected" and "Mobile 1 connected." Minor, but it's a daily step rather than a one-off.

Verdict

The BH70 asks very little in exchange for strong performance: exceptional battery, a genuinely light build, reliable connection through walls, and an attractive price against comparable models. The absence of ANC is the main gap — if your environment is loud enough that you need the room quieted for yourself, look at a headset with active noise cancelling instead. For everyone else, particularly anyone wearing a headset all day, the weight alone makes a case.
