Q. What is the Plantronics 510S Voyager? A. The Plantronics Voyager 510S is a Bluetooth Headset System. This lightweight, versatile headset provides all-day wearing comfort and superior sound quality-and you can seamlessly switch between your office phone and voice-enabled Bluetooth mobile device at the touch of a button. Wherever, Whenever, Wireless.

Q. How do I switch using the Plantronics 510S between the desk phone and the cell phone during calls? A. While on a call on your desk phone, you can dial a number on the cell phone and then press the Talk button on the headset to switch to the cell phone. You should now be hearing the audio from the cell phone.
If you press the Talk button again, you will hang up the cell phone call. Pressing the Talk button once more will switch back to the desktop phone.
If you are on a call on your desk phone and the cell phone rings, you can press the Talk button on the headset twice to switch to the cell phone. As before, if you press the Talk button again, you will hang up the cell phone call. Pressing the Talk button once more will switch back to the desktop phone. The original call should be still in progress.

Q. Does the headset have to be paired to the base unit on the Plantronics 510S? A. The Plantronics 510S Bluetooth headset system is supplied with the Headset and Base unit factory paired to each other. However, if you have purchased a Plantronics 510 System Base unit or you wish to use a replacement headset with your existing base unit the units must be paired together as follows:
1.) Press and hold in at the same time both + and – buttons outgoing volume adjustment buttons on the back of the base unit until the Call Control Button (on the top of the base) starts to flash blue.
2.) Press and hold the volume up (+) button and the headset call control button at he same time and hold them in until the status indicator light on the headset itself flashed red and blue.
3.) Pairing completion is indicated when the call control indicator on the base unit illuminates solid blue (no flashing) and the Status Indicator light on the headset itself flashes blue.

Q. How do I install the Plantronics 510S? A. On the bottom of the Plantronics 510S Base unit there are 2 ports. One has an icon of a “Handset” and one has the icon of a “telephone”. Unplug the “Handset” from the base of your existing telephone and plug it into the Plantronics 510S base unit where it has the icon of the “Handset”. Then take the short cable that came with the Plantronics 510S and plug it into the port on the base of the Plantronics 510S where the icon of the “telephone” is, Then plug the other end into where your “Handset” was on your existing telephone. Make sure the AC Power is plugged into the wall and then you can adjust the configuration setting to the clearest setting. Also see our Plantronics 510S interactive setup guide

Q. I hear too much background conversation, noise or sidetone on the Plantronics 510S? A. All of these issues can be caused by your speak (transmit) volume level being set too high. Lower the speak (transmit) volume controls on the base unit. The Master Transmit controls are the ABCD switch settings on the bottom of the base. A is the lowest and D is the highest setting. You can fine tune this setting with the Plus (+) and minus (-) buttons on the back of the base that are above and below the picture of the microphone.

Q. What should I do when I hear too much background noise, echoes, or distortion on the Voyager 510S? All of these issues can be caused by your microphone (transmit) volume level being too high. To reduce these noises, lower the speak (transmit) volume controls on the base unit.

The master transmit controls are the ABCD switch settings on the bottom of the base. A is the lowest and D is the highest setting. You can fine tune this setting with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons on the back of the base that are above and below the picture of the microphone.

Also, check to see if your 510S is plugged into a dedicated headset port on your telephone. That could be causing the problem as well. We do not recommend that you plug the 510S in the headset port of your telephone. It should be plugged into the hand receiver port instead.

Q. The Plantronics 510S headset loses response to button presses. Why? A. The headset needs to be reset. A hardware reset of the headset can be accomplished by a simultaneous long press of the POWER/MUTE and SPEAK VOLUME DOWN keys.

Q. What are all the different settings on the Plantronics 510S for? A. The Plantronics 510s has both transmit (how you are heard) and Receive (how you hear) controls on the unit itself. The Master Transmit controls are the ABCD switch settings on the bottom of the base. A is the lowest and D is the highest setting. You can fine tune this setting with the Plus (+) and minus (-) buttons on the back of the base that are above and below the picture of the microphone. The Master Receive setting is on the back of the base (below the picture of the microphone) there is a 1234 switch 1 being the highest setting and 4 being the lowest setting. You can fine tune this setting by using the volume control on the headset itself. This is the rocker volume wheel on the back of the headset (opposite of the microphone).
The headset itself also has a receive volume control. Pressing the + symbol will increase the volume and the – symbol will decrease it. There are also configuration settings on the left hand side of the base. This is a dark grey dial with a 1234 on it. There are notches to the right of this dial. Whatever number is lined up with the notches it what setting you are on. This needs to be set to the clearest setting. There is a small silver button on the headset itself which is your “Talk button”. This is what you press to use the headset and or transfer the call from the headset back to the hand receiver. There is also a switch on the right hand side of the base which is your the IntelliStand feature. When the Plantronics 510S is used in conjunction with the Plantronics HL10 handset lifer you can enable the IntelliStand feature. The IntelliStand feature senses when the headset has been removed or placed into the Plantronics 510S base unit which automatically activates the Handset Lifter and enabling headset/handset mode to answer or end the call. There is a switch towards the bottom on the right side of the base unit that will switch the IntelliStand feature On and Off.

Q. It is possible to pair the Plantronics 510 headset to 2 different 510A bases? A. The Plantronics 510 headset can be paired to up to 4 different devices.

Q. Can I use the handset lifter with the Plantronics Voyager 510S? A.
Yes, In order to be able to answer and end calls remotely a Plantronics handset Lifter is needed.
(we sell the Plantronics 510SL bundle with the lifter) Consult our Plantronics compatibility guide for your make/model of office phone to determine which handset lifter best fits your phone model. Although most phones work with the HL10, certain models of phone may require anPlantronics HL1 instead. (Reasons for the HL1 would be the phone’s shape (curved edges vs. square edges), multiple ring tones (external ring tones differ from internal ring tones) or a magnetized hang up button.). Please note that if your telephone system requires you to physically hit a line button to make or receive a call then the lifer will not function on your phone.

Q. Is there a low battery warning on the Voyager 510S? A. When the headset battery is running low, an audible warning will be heard through the headset as a single beep repeating every 20 seconds. The headset Status Indicator will also flash red when the battery needs to be recharged. You should charge the headset immediately.

Q. I do not hear a dial tone on the Voyager 510S. What should I do? This could be caused by a number of problems. Please check the following:

Ensure that the phone is plugged into a working phone line and that you do get a dial tone through the phone’s hand receiver when the headset is turned off.

    • Check the 510S Users Guide (attached below) and check that the unit is installed correctly.
    • Make sure you are within the 30 foot range of the base unit.
    • Make sure the unit has a full charge.
    • Make sure the listen volume levels are adjusted properly.

Q. My Plantronics Voyager 510S headset no longer responds to button presses. Is there a correction? A. The headset may only need to be reset. A hardware reset of the headset can be accomplished by a simultaneous long press of the black POWER/MUTE button and the SPEAK VOLUME DOWN (_) key. Then let the headset rest for 1 minute before powering it back on.
Additionally, if you are using the Plantronics 510S system with your office phone, then the headset may have lost its pairing to the base. Please see page 15 of the attached Users Guide for instructions to resubscribe.

Q. Callers cannot hear me on the Voyager 510S. What should I do? A. This could be caused by a number of things. Please check the following:

    • Check the 510S Users Guide to make sure the unit has been installed correctly.
    • Make sure the mute switch is not on. (This is the small black button on the headset itself; when the mute is on you will hear periodic beeps.)
    • Make sure that your speaking volume level is adjusted correctly. (This is located on the back of the charging base. 1 is the loudest and 4 is the softest).
    • Check the configuration setting (round dial on the left side of the base). Try other configuration dial settings on the base unit.

Q. How many Voyager 510S systems can be deployed in a given office size? A. As a guide, the number of users may be increased by 50% for each doubling of floor size. For example:

    • 50ft x 65ft office = 8 active calls
    • 100ft x 65ft office = 8 + 50% of 8 = 8 + 4 = 12 active calls
    • 100ft x 130ft office = 12 + 50% of 12 = 12 + 6 = 18 active calls
