Hello class, today we will be looking at headsets that are compatible for your PC (Windows) and Apple Mac OS. Many businesses today are opting to use their computers in lieu of phones to make phone calls. It’s a very cost effective method to reduce spending by using VOIP and other soft phone applications. There are so many options out there, but I will list the ones that stand out most to me. The most important things to consider are the call quality and comfort. All of these headsets below are plug and play, and even someone like myself can install them. If you plan on sitting at the computer and don’t need to be mobile, I’d recommend getting a corded. If you need to be more mobile, or just don’t want to be tied to your desk, go wireless. Let’s begin shall we?
This headset is the newest edition the the Plantronics Blackwire line. It’s basically a corded Voyager Focus. This is a corded USB-A (or USB-C) headset with active noise canceling. You don’t really see any corded headsets with active noise canceling but here it is. This headset also has a nice omni directional boomless mics to help pick up your voice. The microphones are noise canceling as well. If you’re not working, you can still use this headset to listen to music. It has nice Hi-Fi stereo earphones. This wouldn’t be my first choice when picking a noise canceling headset, but if you’re on a a budget, this might be a good pick for you. Click here to buy now.
This is a great entry level corded headset from Jabra. It has a USB-A (or USB-C) connection. It has 3 microphones to pick up your voice in addition to a noise canceling microphone. Large 40mm speakers (ear cups) so you can focus on the task or phone call. In addition, a built-in busy light so your colleagues/friends know if you’re on a call, visible 360 deg around you. Hi-Fi wideband frequency response. A great headset for the casual user. The best feature I like the most is that you can mute the call by simply by moving the microphone boom up. Move the microphone down to un-mute. Comes with a manufacturer’s 2 year warranty. Click here to buy now. (USB-C version)
Next up we have the….
This is quite a unique wireless headset. Generally speaking, wireless USB headsets use Bluetooth connectivity, however, this headset runs on DECT 6.0 (similar to a cordless phone.) Because of this you get an astonishing range of up to 300ft. This headset has a great noise canceling mic and WideBand audio. The only downside to this headset is the lack of Bluetooth capability but still an awesome headset. Comes with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty, click here to buy now.

Working in a office with several employees can be a difficult task. The constant office chatter makes it difficult when you’re on the phone. Fortunately there are plenty of headphones that will help filter out majority of the background noise. I’m almost certain that majority of people have heard the phrase “noise canceling.” Generally speaking, that is referring to the microphones ability to filter out noise for the user on the other end of the phone. Below you will find a small list of headsets are great at filtering out that background noise. As a bonus I will include a couple of headphones that filter out noise through the microphone and the noise through the earphones! Some of the headsets will have passive/active noise canceling earphones.
Let us start with the noise canceling microphone only category. Note, all of these headsets come with a superb noise canceling microphone. All corded headsets require a bottom cable or an amplifier to work with your device.
Like I said above, this has an excellent noise canceling microphone. But in addition, you have high def audio, plush leatherette ear cushions, and very sturdy construction. This CORDED binaural (covers both ears) headphone has a little passive noise canceling (think of resting earphones over your ears without any sound playing). The microphone is a bit unique, it sits just below the base of the earphone to avoid any possible interference with your peripheral vision. You can also extend the microphone to the perfect distance to your mouth. With all of that said, if you’re in a very loud environment that has close quarters or no partitions, you’ll probably want to opt for something with active noise canceling. Great headphone for mild office chatter. Requires a bottom cable or amplifier, comes with a manufacturers 2 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
This is the newest wireless headphone on the market. Similar to the above, if you’re in a mild to moderately noisy environment, this dual eared wireless headset will be an awesome choice. This monster comes out of the box with a massive 490ft wireless range, 13 hours of talk time, and advanced noise canceling microphone. The awesome part of this headphone is, you can even plug it into your computer at the same time as your desk phone, allowing you to switch between calls on your landline and soft phone applications. This headphone is certified for Microsoft Skype for Business so chat away, or just enjoy some YouTube or stream some Spotify. It runs on DECT technology like many other wireless headphones, but this uses DECT Security Step C & using FIPS approved algorithms for key generation, payload encryption and authentication. It is the most secure headset on the market. Like I said this headphone is among the line of the newest and best technology by Jabra. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy.
The newest technology got even better. This binaural wireless headset boasts all the same features of the Engage 65 plus more. You will still have the incredible range, talk time, and advanced noise canceling microphone, etc. The key differences between this headset and the Engage 65 is the ability to connect to even more devices and a touch screen base. The Engage 75 can connect 5 devices at the same time. Yes you read that right. 5 devices. You can connect 2 USB, 2 Bluetooth, and 1 desk phone. Now, I don’t know why you would need to connect this many devices, but I guess it’s good to know that you can. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy.
Noise canceling earphones and microphone:
For extremely loud environments here we have a dual ear circumaural corded headset. However, we’re seeing that many people want to have a active noise canceling ANC (blocking noise through the earphones) headphone to be used with desk phones. Luckily there is a solution to that. You can pair this headphone with a PC/USB switch that will enable you to use this headset with a corded desk phone. The very new and very best on the market. For many years the Jabra Pro 9400 series was one of the best wireless headsets. Now we have the Engage series. You can think of them as the new and improved version of the 9400 series. Well that’s basically what they are. Below you will read about them in more detail. All headsets below are Microsoft Skype for Business Open Office Compatible
The Engage 65 mono would be my goto headset. I say goto because I’m currently using a the Engage 65 Stereo. My office is not loud enough to warrant the dual earphones, but it is nice to listen to music in stereo. The Engage 65 mono is a monster. You have 13 hours talk time, 490ft wireless range, and a fantastic noise canceling microphone. This headset is the replacement for the Pro 9450. You can connect it to 2 devices, deskphone and computer. If you’re in a large office, you don’t have to worry about interference. You can have up to 120 of these headsets without fear of interference. This is the most secure wireless headset on the market. It uses Patented pairing. 256-bit AES encryption. 128-bit authentification. DECT Security Level C. The Engage 65 is also very comfortable and light 57g. Another useful feature is the built in busy light. Co-workers/customers no longer have to guess whether or not you’re on the phone. You wear it as a headband and it covers 1 ear. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
This wireless headset is very similar to the Mono but has some slight differences. The good: You can purchase additional wearing styles for this headset. It comes with an earhook, (headband and neckband sold separately.) It is much lighter. The bad: talk time is decreased to 9 hours, the wireless range drops to around 330ft, and the battery is NOT replaceable. When your battery eventually dies, you will have to purchase a new headset. Still a great headset. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
Virtually the same as the 65 Mono, weighs a little more 83g, stereo (2 earphones). With this you will get up to 490ft or roaming range, and 13 hours of talk time. The touch screen base is also a cool feature. You can control or adjust setting right on the base! The real benefit with this headset is the passive noise canceling that is provided by the dual ears. Like I said earlier, this is the headset that I use, and I love it. Sometimes it gets hot in the office, so I would prefer a single ear. At times when everyone is screaming on the phone, I’m glad I have stereo. The stereo headphones are superb for listening to music (listening to Jimi Hendrix right now). Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
This headset is the absolute top of the line. Like the Engage 65, you have the exemplary 490ft range and 13 hours of talk time. This headset comes with head band, neck band, and you can connect it to 5 devices at one time. You read that correctly, connect this headset with 1 desk phone, 2 USB devices, and 2 Bluetooth devices. I can’t imagine many people needing to connect to that many devices simultaneously, but more is better than less. It also has a convenient touch screen base. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
The headset has the same connectivity as the above 2 USB devices, 2 Bluetooth device and 1 desk phone. Unlike the Engage 65 convertible, this headset includes all three wearing styles (headband, ear hoods, neck band). Again the downside to this headset is the loss of wireless range, and decreased talk time. You still have 9 hours of talk time and 330ft of range, which is about the industry standard. Like the 65 Convertible this headset does not have an exchangeable battery. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
Includes all of the same features as the Engage 75 Mono but comes with 2 earphones. Rock out with this bomb stereo headset up to 490ft. Are you worried about how long you talk straight with this headset? Don’t be. You have an incredible 13 hours of talk time. This headset is better if you’re in a slightly louder environment. More often than not, my coworkers are talking very loud. We are within close proximity to one another, having stereo helps drown out the noise. Don’t fret about the headset being uncomfortable or cumbersome. I wear the Engage 65 stereo for 8-9 hours straight no problem. Do yourself a solid and just buy this headset. It is far better than anything on the market. I prefer the Engage series way over Plantronics. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
All of these headsets are truly remarkable. If you choose any of the above, I guarantee you will love them. All of the Engage series are remote answer capable. Remote answering will enable you to answer and end phone calls away from your desk. You can be down the hall or in another room and still be able to answer your calls. Feel free to reach out to me for compatibility.
