If you have any of the following Avaya Phone models 1408, 1416, 2410, 2420, 4606, 4610, 4610SW, 4612, 4620, 4620SW, 4621, 4621SW, 4622SW, 4624, 4625SW, 4630, 4630SW, 5410, 5420, 5610, 5620, 5621, 5625, 6416D+M, 6424D+M, QE4610, 9404, 9406, 9408, 9504, 9508, 4406D+, 4412D+, 4424D+, 4424LD+. This guide will help you pick out which headset is right for you.
The first thing to figure out is whether or not you prefer having a wired headset to your desk phone, or a wireless headset. For wired options, the headset will plug directly into the desk phones’ ‘headset jack.’ To use the headset, you simply need to press the ‘headset button’ on the phone, then the headset will be activated and you can speak and listen through your corded headset.
Next you should consider your budget. Corded headsets are the cheapest option, ranging from $85 to $185+. Wireless headsets start in the $160 range, and rise from there depending on your wireless needs (wireless options below).
Lastly and just as important, consider your working environment and how you would prefer to wear your headset. If it is a noisier work area, having a Binaural (2 ears covered) headset would be needed. Most headsets these days already have a noise canceling microphone, and every headset (except for over the ear headsets) can come with 2 headphones. Headsets can also come with different wearing styles, the over the ear option I just mentioned, over the head via headband, or even behind the head with a neckband. Now I’ll get into some headset information to help you choose which is right for you:

As you have noticed , Jabra had been adding new UC headsets to the market, and it can become a little overwhelming trying to find a headset that can work with your smartphone and your computer. Personally, I do use and need something reliable and easy to sync thru all my devices and get the best sound quality with no performance sacrifice.
With so many options today you might ask the same… What’s the main difference between the Jabra Evolve 65 and the Jabra Evolve 75, besides the name? Both of these headsets are going to be Bluetooth, so you can easily use with any Bluetooth enable device such as Smartphones, iPhone, Tablets, Laptops and some desktops as well. I will analyze both of them and will explain you in deep the main differences, and will let you know my favorite choice.
The Jabra Evolve 65 is a nice quality wireless headset from Jabra, designed to be used with Smartphones , tablets , laptops and desktops via Bluetooth, all this thanks to the Jabra Link 360 adapter included with it. It is always recommended to use the Bluetooth dongle in order to get the best range when you want to use your Evolve headsets with your laptop or desktop.
Easy to use and set up , just as Plug-and-Play makes it so easy to be used by any one even with no tech skills. This headset gives you a range of up to 100ft, and gives you a nice 10 hour talk time when fully charged. You have a couple of options here available, the nice Evolve 65 Mono, that will be covering just one ear, the Evolve 65 Stereo that will be covering both ears and Evolve 65 Stereo with Stand , that allows you to leave the headset and charge it on its nice and well finished stand/docking station. My favorite in this family will be the 65 Stereo with Stand.
The Evolve 65 comes with a nice noise canceling microphone , with a boom arm that can be stored in the headset when used for just listening music or watching a video. Built-in busy-light let you know when you are in a call or when you are using your headset. As additional feature, you can turn on the Busy-light at will, so nobody disturb you.
For those that want something lighter or less bulkier, Jabra had recently launched the Jabra Evolve 65t, that is mainly a reduced size and proportions , on the form of earbuds. This headset offers a nice quality and talk time compared with competitors, 5 straight hours of talk time , close to 6 on just listening mode, while some competitors just offer about a little over 2 to 3 hours max, a nice feature is that the carrying case is the same charging station, using the charging case can give you up to 15 hours of talk time!
The Evolve 75 can be considered the Evolve 65 bigger brother. It is a more sophisticated headset with additional features that will amaze any tech and not tech people. One of the main features that would like to address will be the addition of Active Noise Canceling, this will be coming from the ear cups, specially designed for those really loud work environments, this feature can be used as well with the headset off! Check my previous blog if want to learn more about Active Noise Canceling.
Another feature of the Jabra Evolve 75 is the 15 hours of talk time when fully charged. with a range of 100ft thanks to the Jabra Link 370 Bluetooth Dongle. The Evolve 75 can be found in different flavors , including Evolve 75 UC , Evolve 75 MS (Which stands for Skype for business certified), Evolve 75 UC with charging stand , Evolve 75 MS with charging stand, Evolve 75e UC, which is the earbuds style for people that don’t want something as bulky or big covering both ears, and finally the Evolve 75e MS including the Certification for Skype for business.
Personally, I have the Evolve 75 UC and I totally love it! Use it for my cell phone and to watch movies and webinars in my tablet, the range and connection is one of the best ones that I had ever seen, bypassing a lot of the competitors.
The Evolve 75e gives you a nice talk time of impressive 14 hours , similar to the full bodies Evolve 75, which is an impressive power time for a small earbud headset.
As with the Evolve 65, the Jabra Evolve 75 has a noise canceling microphone with a boom arm that can easily be clipped to the headset when not in use, plus its Built-In busy light that allows you know when you are on a call or using your headset. As the younger sibling the Evolve 65, you can turn on the Busy-light at will , perfectly designed when you don’t want to be interrupted. The Busy-light its built in to both sides of the headset and the brightness is one of the best ones in the market.

Working in a office with several employees can be a difficult task. The constant office chatter makes it difficult when you’re on the phone. Fortunately there are plenty of headphones that will help filter out majority of the background noise. I’m almost certain that majority of people have heard the phrase “noise canceling.” Generally speaking, that is referring to the microphones ability to filter out noise for the user on the other end of the phone. Below you will find a small list of headsets are great at filtering out that background noise. As a bonus I will include a couple of headphones that filter out noise through the microphone and the noise through the earphones! Some of the headsets will have passive/active noise canceling earphones.
Let us start with the noise canceling microphone only category. Note, all of these headsets come with a superb noise canceling microphone. All corded headsets require a bottom cable or an amplifier to work with your device.
Like I said above, this has an excellent noise canceling microphone. But in addition, you have high def audio, plush leatherette ear cushions, and very sturdy construction. This CORDED binaural (covers both ears) headphone has a little passive noise canceling (think of resting earphones over your ears without any sound playing). The microphone is a bit unique, it sits just below the base of the earphone to avoid any possible interference with your peripheral vision. You can also extend the microphone to the perfect distance to your mouth. With all of that said, if you’re in a very loud environment that has close quarters or no partitions, you’ll probably want to opt for something with active noise canceling. Great headphone for mild office chatter. Requires a bottom cable or amplifier, comes with a manufacturers 2 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
This is the newest wireless headphone on the market. Similar to the above, if you’re in a mild to moderately noisy environment, this dual eared wireless headset will be an awesome choice. This monster comes out of the box with a massive 490ft wireless range, 13 hours of talk time, and advanced noise canceling microphone. The awesome part of this headphone is, you can even plug it into your computer at the same time as your desk phone, allowing you to switch between calls on your landline and soft phone applications. This headphone is certified for Microsoft Skype for Business so chat away, or just enjoy some YouTube or stream some Spotify. It runs on DECT technology like many other wireless headphones, but this uses DECT Security Step C & using FIPS approved algorithms for key generation, payload encryption and authentication. It is the most secure headset on the market. Like I said this headphone is among the line of the newest and best technology by Jabra. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy.
The newest technology got even better. This binaural wireless headset boasts all the same features of the Engage 65 plus more. You will still have the incredible range, talk time, and advanced noise canceling microphone, etc. The key differences between this headset and the Engage 65 is the ability to connect to even more devices and a touch screen base. The Engage 75 can connect 5 devices at the same time. Yes you read that right. 5 devices. You can connect 2 USB, 2 Bluetooth, and 1 desk phone. Now, I don’t know why you would need to connect this many devices, but I guess it’s good to know that you can. Comes with a manufacturer’s 1 year warranty. Click here to buy.
Noise canceling earphones and microphone:
For extremely loud environments here we have a dual ear circumaural corded headset. These headphones were designed to be used in very loud environments, from aircraft carriers to the New York Stock Exchange. They have 22dB of noise reduction through the ear cups and 20dB through the microphone. These headphones are exceedingly durable. The cables are resistant to UV, and oils and solvents, and will stand up to extreme temperatures while remaining to be flexible. If you’re in a call center environment or have really loud background noise, this is the best corded noise canceling headset. This is a corded headset so you will need a bottom cable or an amplifier. Comes with a manufacturers 2 year warranty. Click here to buy now.
This wireless Bluetooth headset would be great for a loud environment. It has active noise canceling in the ear phones as well as a noise canceling microphone. Not only is it very comfortable, but you can also pair it with another Bluetooth enabled device. Say for instance your cell phone rings, you could answer the call with the same headphone. It has soft plush ear cushions so you can wear them all day long. Generally speaking, these headsets were designed to be used with a computer and cell phone. However, we’re seeing that many people want to have a wireless noise canceling (through the earphones) headphone to be used with desk phones. Luckily there is a solution to that. You can pair this headphone with a PC/USB switch that will enable you to use this headset with a corded desk phone. You have about 12 hours of talk time and 150 ft wireless range from the Bluetooth dongle. There are many other subtle features you can read about here. Comes with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty. Click here to buy now.
This Plantronics Savi 8220 headset is the newest wireless noise canceling headset by Plantronics. If you’re familiar with the Savi 700 series, the 8200 series is an improvement on them. Probably you had heard the phrase “Noise Canceling”, but do we actually know what it is, where it is located, or what is the main purpose of it? We will discuss this on this blog.
Noise-cancelling headphones are headphones that reduce unwanted ambient noises using an active noise control. Noise cancellation makes it possible to listen to audio content without raising the volume on the headset.
Active noise control (like in the Jabra Evolve 75 ), also known as sound field cancellation, reduces the sound of unwanted noises by electro acoustical means. For the main reason these kind of headsets will require external power to create the Noise Canceling , among those will be the Plantronics Voyager 8200 and the Plantronics Voyager Focus.
Passive noise reduction on the other hand doesn’t require power, costs far less than the “active” noise canceling headsets but offers slightly less cancellation. Passive ambient noise reduction means insulating the ear from the external noise with bigger rugged ear cups. A good example of this headsets would be the Plantronics SHR2083-01 which is mainly used in Wall Street by the stock market brokers.
A noise-canceling microphone is a microphone that is designed to filter outside noises from the desired sound, which is especially useful in noisy environments. Most of the headsets from Jabra and Plantronics offer this quality. Best examples on corded headsets with this feature would be the Jabra Biz 2400 II Mono and the Plantronics HW710 , while on wirless headsets would be Jabra Pro 920 Mono and Plantronics CS540 .

Headsets nowadays do way more than just using them for your desk phone. We have headphones that can now be connected to 5 devices at the SAME TIME. I’m talking desk phone + computer + cellphone. Pretty crazy stuff now. Anyway, here is a small list of some very nice headsets that will enable you to listen to music while you work.
The Plantronics Savi 8220 is the newest wireless headset on the market. This is the upgraded version of the already fabulous Plantronics Savi 700 series. The main difference between the old and new is the active noise canceling in the headset. That’s right, on top of all the same features of the old Savi, you will get more range, talk time, and active noise canceling for those loud environments. Because of the triple connectivity, you can enjoy streaming music to your headset when you’re not on a call. This is an excellent choice for a desk phone computer combo. 590ft line of sight range, 13 hours of talk time you can’t go wrong. Comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, click here to buy now.
The Voyager 8200 is one of the newest wireless headsets on the market. Even though this headset wasn’t designed for use with desk phones, we can still make it work. An interesting feature of this headset is the noticeable lack of a boom microphone. But don’t worry, your customers will still be able to hear you with the dual-paired (4 total) omni-directional microphones. This powerful headset has active noise canceling earphones and a great noise canceling microphones. You will get about 100ft of wireless range from a deskphone or computer. the 8200 has about 24hours of music/movie streaming. To use this headset with a desk phone, you will need an adapter. This will enable you to use this with your deskphone, computer, and cell phone. Pretty awesome huh? Comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, click here to buy now.
If you’re looking to save a little money but still be able to stream music to your head phones, this would be a decent choice. You will have triple connectivity, desk phone, computer, cell phone, but music quality won’t be as nice as the new Savi or the Voyager 8200. Another thing this headset lacks is the active noise canceling. This is still a great headset, but I’d recommend paying a little more and getting the Savi 8220. Comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, click here to buy now.
This is my favorite headset. I currently use the Jabra Engage 65 Stereo. Think of the Engage 75 as the big brother of the 65. This headset is absolutely beastly. You can connect this monster to 5 devices at the same time. 1 desk phone, 2 USB devices, and 2 Bluetooth devices. A bit overkill if you ask me, but hey, it’s better to have more than less. As I type this, I’m listening to some heavy metal, on my Engage series headset. Considering these headsets were not designed for the enjoyment of music, these are damn good quality speakers. This headset has the best wireless range, talk time, and just overall quality out of all the others that I’ve used before. If you want to save some money, you can always go for the Engage 65 Stereo. The 65 will only connect to your desk phone and your USB device, but that’s where we stream music from right?. Comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, click here to buy now.
The headsets that connect to desk phones are remote answer capable. There are tons of solutions out there for every phone. If you’re interested in purchasing one of these items and have questions, feel free to call or email me.
