How to improve EnGenius Durafon systems coverage with an extra antenna
Views 63By George
Without doubt EnGenius had been one of the best solutions for people looking for the best cordless phones with the furthest range in the market, offering respectable up to 250,000 square feet of coverage. However sometimes even the venerable DuraFon Pro signal can be blocked by constructions as buildings, barns, parking structures and so.
There are solutions for this issue and we will analyze them so you can chose the best option for your EnGenius system.
EnGenius DuraFon External Antenna w/60ft cable SN-UL-AK20L
This the most common option for your system, the External Antenna kit comes with everything you need to just plug in the system and increase the coverage, compatible with DuraFon and Freestyl stations. This kit comes with 60ft of cable and ready to be used in the outdoors. Order yours here.
EnGenius Antenna Splitter & 9ft Coaxial Cable
This option allows you to split up to 2 antennas either indoor or outdoor ones into your system, perfect for solutions after having 1 antenna and loosing signal due structures blocking the signal on your system. One thing will like to mention is that when the splitter is being used , you only split the signal of the antenna in 2 which will make the signal weaker between 2 antennas, the more times that the signal split the weaker the signal becomes. This solution is designed to get better coverage in a building and if a person needs to get coverage inside a building and take the handset outside without compromising the signal of the device, taking it from a linear solution to a wider coverage. This splitter can be used with 2 outdoor antennas, or 2 indoor antennas or a mix and match of both. Click here to order yours.
EnGenius Durafon Indoor Dome Antenna 60ft cable
Specially designed for indoor use, the 900 mhz dome antenna comes with everything needed to use it with your system indoors. The dome cone design is perfect for warehouse retail store environments, making it the best solution for people that works in large warehouses and need to be reachable without dropping the signal. Easy to install and offering the versatility of being installed in the ceiling or being suspended in the sky. Get yours for your system here.
This is a basic classic design of how this antennas and adapters work, but if you want to get more information , please give us a call and we will gladly help you find the right EnGenius System that fits your needs.

Views 181By Staff
There are a lot of different Engenius phone models out there. One reason that is, they are truly unique. If you’ve ever used an Engenius phone I’m sure you’ll never want to switch back. Below I will highlight a few key differences between the Durafon 1x, Pro, Freestyl1, and Freestyl2. The main differences are the range, durability, and number of handsets. Please note, all of these systems require an analog phone line.
EnGenius FreeStyl1 Long Range Cordless Phone (single-line)

This would be a nice entry level phone for using casually around a large home, ranch, or farm. You get approximately 25,000 sq ft / 10 acres / 6 floors of penetration / 4 hrs talk time. This system is expandable up to 4 additional bases, and a total of 9 handsets. EnGenius FreeStyl2 Long Range Cordless Phone (single-line)

You may be like myself be wondering what the difference between this and the FreeStyl1 is. Besides the design of the phones themselves. There are 2 differences, the base station does not have a dial pad on it and you can only use a max of 9 handsets on 1 base station. You cannot add additional bases to this system. Same range and durability. Click here to buy. All products are brand new and come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty.

The natural replacement of the veteran DuraFon 1X, the new DuraFon Pro PSL now offers the connectivity of up 90 handsets supported per base, which is a significant increase from 9, for people looking for a long range single line phone. This is the next step up from the FreeStyl. These phones really live up to their names. They are meant to be used for the more rugged worker. These have a huge 12 floors of penetration / 250,000 sq ft in a warehouse / 3,000 acres on a farm or ranch / 6 hours talk time. Although it is a single line phone, you can expand it to a total of 8 now compared from the previous of just 4 / lines, up to 8 base units now. EnGenius DuraFon Pro Industrial Cordless Phone System (multi-line)

This phone system is the industry standard from oil rigs, manufacturing plants, hotels, and large properties. These phones include all the same features and range as the Durafon 1x but with the added bonus of adding 4 lines per base station. If you need more than one phone line, this is the system for you. You can expand this system 4-32 ports/lines, 1-90 handsets/DuraWalkie, total of 8 base units. Click here to buy. All products are brand new and come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty.

Best Wireless Headsets for Call Centers.
Views 823By George

The telephone is the essential part of a call center, for the same reason it can become a lousy environment. To provide the best attention over the phone the agents require the best headset that can provide exceptional sound and allow them to keep mobility as well. We review and recommend some headsets available in the market.
——————————————————————————————————————————————

The first one on the list is the Jabra Pro 920 Duo, with a nice wireless range up to 350ft , covering both ears help to isolate the outside noise and have a better sound quality, compatible with just about all the desk phones on the market makes this one one of the best options for a light, easy to use and affordable headset. Thanks to the Dect wireless built in, you can get a minimum of 8 hours on battery life with just one single charge. Offering Jabra’s Digital Signal Processing, which means you get the best sound quality by removing the background noise and echo. The advantage of just 80g of weight makes this a real good headset for daily wear without compromising comfort and performance. A nice feature is that you can pair up to 4 headsets for conference call, which makes it an excellent and affordable option for conference calls or training purposes.
——————————————————————————————————————————————–

Coming up next we have the Plantronics CS520, as same as the previous one, this headset cover both ears, so the user can be focus without interruptions from outside noises. With a wireless range of up to 350ft and a talk time of minimum 9 hours , makes it one of the preferred choices for Call Centers. As with most of the wireless headsets, can be paired to up to 3 headsets for conference calls or training purposes. having a weight of barely 96g. makes it a really good contender on the headset match. The cradle/docking station has one of the best looking designs that I have seen, a glossy black finish at the front reminds me of the jet black from the iPhone 7/7plus. Really nice and elegant touch from the CS520. Easy to set up and to charge the headset.
——————————————————————————————————————————————-–

Personally, would like to recommend the bundle of the CS520+HL10, which will give the same features as the CS520, but it will allow the user to answer and end calls from the distance. Which allows a better productivity and freedom at call centers or offices. The HL10 fits most of the phone systems in the market, but if you would like to know if yours is compatible, feel free to call us.
——————————————————————————————————————————————-–

For those crowded Call Centers with the same headset, Plantronics give us the CS520-XD, due to the different frequency it works, allowing all the users to have the benefits of being wireless without compromising audio quality. The CS520-XD was designed to address wireless density issues, so that more wireless headsets can be used in the same space while maintaining clear conversations. Highly recommended to mix with the CS520 in a proportion of 50/50 in order to get the best sound quality without any interference. If you would like to know more about high density and if you need a set up like that feel free to call us.
——————————————————————————————————————————————-–

Last but not least we have what we can call the “Jewel of the Crown” we have the Savi 8220, this headset offers an exceptional wireless range of up to 590ft, active noise canceling and the availability to connect to desk phone, computer and cell phone via Bluetooth.Under the philosophy of “One headset for all your devices” , I love the seamless connectivity with my tablet, cell phone and phone at work Personally, my favorite in the list. Thanks to the Plantronics Hub software, you can even change the language of the headset , change its settings and it is compatible with Windows and Mac.

Extending the Range of Engenius Durafon Cordless Phones
Views 373By Maha
You currently own and operate an Engenius Durafon or Engenius Freestyl cordless phone and want a little more range or better sound quality when you’re far away from the base. There are several solutions. If you speak to any professional communication engineer or Amateur radio operator, they can tell you that the most important piece of equipment for radio transmission is the antenna, everything else is secondary.
The least expensive and easiest way is the upgrade the Engenius handset antenna to an optimal antenna. This simple $20 antenna upgrade will dramatically (about 20%) improve the range and reception:
EnGenius DuraFon Optimal Performance Handset Antenna
If you own a FreeStyl1, add a EnGenius FreeStyl1 Antenna Optimal (For FREESTYL1)
We swapped out all our handset antennas here in our warehouse and major improvements was reported at the end of the building as well as traveling down the street far as 1/2 mile away.
If the simple handset antenna upgrade still not enough maybe you have lot of obstacles, hills or thick walls in your locations. You can also upgrade the Engenius Durafon or Engenius FreeStyl base antenna:
EnGenius DuraFon External Antenna w/60ft cable SN-ULTRA-AK20L
Upgrading the base antenna and handset antenna will easily double and sometimes triple your range, depending on your environment. simply replace the base antenna and install this antenna on top the building in a central location for the best result. You can also use the inverted dome antenna to indoor mount:
If for whatever reason you want even more range with the added antennas, we can special order you additional bases as “repeaters” to multiply your existing range. Call us for details on how to order: 877-999-3838
Why don’t we list some EnGenius Durafon prices on the website?

Why don’t you guys show prices on some of the EnGenius phones on your website?
As an Authorized Dealer, EnGenius does not allow us to advertise discounted prices on the Durafon Pro Series phones. Please call us (877-999-3838) for our latest discounted prices on these phones. If you see EnGenius Durafon Pro series phones prices advertised on a website, that reseller is NOT an AUTHORIZED ENGENIUS DEALER (for example Amazon.com). These phones are sold WITHOUT the EnGenius one-year warranty and most likely won’t get support for the product they just purchased. If you purchase an Engenius Durafon from an unauthorized dealer, and need a repair, you will pay a $299 fee + the cost of the repair. Furthermore, if you purchase an EnGenius phone from an unauthorized dealer, you may receive a used or refurbished product.

Basic Engenius Durafon PRO FAQ and Troubleshooting
Views 4034By Maha
ENGENIUS DURAFON PRO FAQ’S
Q. How does the broadcast from the base unit work?
A. By default line 3 and 4 are just regular line ports, but if switch to a broadcast mode, they can broadcast the incoming call to all handsets and walkies. For example, if you wire x435 to our line 4 port with broadcast on, it will auto answer with a greeting asking for the group number, or wait to broadcast all. After the beep, you are then broadcasted to the selected group or all handsets.
Q. Can the Walkie receive calls from another Pro handset?
A. The Walkies cannot receive calls from an incoming line, or receive a transferred call from a Durafon PRO handset. It is strictly limited to 2 way radio or broadcast. It will receive broadcasts through the base unit broadcast port.
Q. How far does the Walkie transmit from one handset to another?
A. Range of the Walkie is less than a typical incoming call or broadcast from the base unit. Range can be from 25% to as much as 75% less. If the external antenna is used on the base unit, the range will be even better, and the difference 2 way handset or broadcast will be even more noticeable. It is recommended in very demanding situation, where range is an issue, to opt for the Durafon PRO handset instead, and dial in through the phone system extension of which the broadcast port is used. This will use the base station power, and antenna system, instead of just the handset, to maximize broadcast coverage.
Q. How can some one call into the broadcast base unit to transmit a broadcast?
A4. First the base station line port (either 3, or 4) broadcast must be turned on (Menu 9, 2, base number (00-07) (starts at 00), 1, Change for L3 or L4). Then you simply dial into it, and follow the auto attendant instructions. Note, for broadcast id, you must enter a group number (01-07). By default handsets are not part of any groups. To add a handset to a group, press Menu 5, 2, ADD, then 01-07 accordingly.
Q. Which one is the Durafon PRO handset, and which one is the Walkie?
A. The Green faceplate handset is the PRO, which is fully functional. The blue faceplate handset, are Walkies. You can also remove the battery to verify model and serial number.
Q. How many ports/lines does the broadcast take up on the Pro?
A. There are 4 available time slots on each PRO base unit. It uses 2 of the 4 time slots during a broadcast. One is being used as the occupied line (L4 for example), and the other time slot is used to do the outgoing broadcast to all the handsets. This means that if you are on 3 calls (L1, L2, AND L3), L4 broadcast will NOT work.
During a broadcast, if L1 and L2 are in use, and L3 receives an incoming call, the incoming call takes priority. The broadcast stops, and phones ring instead.
Q. How do I register handsets to multiple DuraFon Pro bases?
A. You must first register all handsets to the primary base (id 00), and then add base units to the system after. To add a base unit, use the administrator handset id 10 or 11 by pressing Menu 8, 1, and then the id of the next base unit. (01-07)
Q. Can I reply to a base to base broadcast from a Durafon PRO? From a Durawalkie? How?
A. In regards to the Durafon PRO, you cannot reply to base unit broadcast because they come through as an incoming call, and then are dropped. Your best bet is to simply call back the broadcast originator at their extension if known. We recommend if the broadcaster wants to be called back, that they mention which extension they could be reached at in the broadcast.
The Durawalkie is further limited in that it cannot use any actually telephone lines, and therefore extensions. It’s only course of communications is between other Durafon handsets (both PRO and Walkie) within the system.
Q. Can the Durawalkie be used out of the box without the base unit?
A. No, Durawalkies require registration ID’s from the same base unit to receive 2 WAY, or broadcasts.
Q. What is the difference between the EnGenius Durafon 4x and the PRO system?
A. The additions to the PRO include:
- Speakerphone capability of the PRO handsets.
- Multiple base registration (allowing 2 way / broadcast with all, up to 8 total base units), where 4x is limited to base specific.
- Broadcast through a line port.
Q. Will a Durawalkie receive a remote broadcast from the line port?
A. Yes they will, just the same as the PRO phone handsets.
Q. Is the range different for a DuraWalkie than of a PRO handset?
A. No, they both perform the same as far as range.
Engenius Durafon Pro Basic Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with the system, do a power reset on both handset(s), and base station. Secondly, try resetting the handset and base unit. Note, you will have to re-register the handsets.
First power-up the base for at least 5 seconds. Now locate the register button near the antenna connection of the base station (blue button labeled as REG). Do not press the RST button! Now press the register button on the base and hold it until all line lights illuminate. Once they light up, you can now let go and go to the handset and, press menu 6 (registration) and 1(register) during the time the lights are lit on the base unit. The display will say register and then new the new ID. The ID of the handset will be 10 for the first handset registered to base, and will go in consecutive order there after (11, 12, 13 etc.). Up to 90 handsets can be registered to the base. Keep in mind that ID 10 and 11 are the “Administrative handsets” These handsets have administrative capability, which allows for dedicating phone lines to specific handsets, turn the auto attendant on or off, and clear or assign ID’s to other handsets etc.
(Ref #2) Resetting a handset: Press Menu, 5, star, then 1 (clear all), then power recycle. This is useful to clear the logbook, where no problems with the system are occurring.
(Ref #3) Deregistering a handset: Same procedure as Ref #1, except press menu 6, 2 on the handset. The handset will display “Deregister” The ID of the handset is now removed from the base and the handset. Note, if you can’t deregister the handset because the handset is damaged, please go to Ref #11 after it has been repaired.
(Ref #4) Base station won’t go into registration mode: Make sure only the power light is on with the base station. Do a power reset on the base station. Lastly, reset the base and try again.
(Ref #5) Adding a base unit: To add another base unit to the PRO system, you will need an administrative handset (id 10 or 11). If you do not have one, you must do Ref #6, then Ref #1. Press the REG button on the base unit you wish to add until all four line lights light up. The next step is to press Menu 8, 1 (add base), and then choose 01 through 07. Note the first base unit and any new or reset base has id 00, therefore it cannot be the same. You can have up to 8 base units. It is recommended to number them in order and label the base units.
(Ref #6) Resetting the base: (required if administrator handsets ID 10 or 11 don’t exist). First power-up the base for at least 5 seconds (wait until after line lights flash). Locate the reset button near the base station antenna connection, next to the blue register button with the letters RST beneath it. Now use a pen or paperclip to press it down until line 1 and line 2 lights up. After they light up, you can let go. They should then go out after a few seconds. Then power reset the base by unplugging it, and plugging it back in. The base is now reset. (Registration will now start at 10 again)
(Ref #7) Dedicating lines to a specific handset:
By default all incoming calls will ring all handsets. To program line dedication to a specific line you must use an administrative handset (ID 10, or 11). You need to choose the base, the line, and then the handset id it will be dedicated to. Note, as you dedicate one line to a handset, the other remaining lines still have “all handsets” going to them, including the dedicated handset. You will need to dedicate all lines to have complete direct dialing to each handset exclusively.
With the administrative handset, press Menu, 9, 2, then choose the base id (primary base is 00, and additional bases are from 01-07), then choose 2. Use the up/down arrows to choose the line accordingly you wish to dedicate and the handset id it goes to.
NOTE: By resetting the base (the tiny button next to the “REG” button) you will erase all registration and administrative changes including line dedication of handsets.
Note if you wish to dedicate more than one handset to a line, you must use grouping instead (see Ref #8).
(Ref #8) Grouping handsets to lines:
Grouping is similar to line dedication but now you will be dedicating a line to a group instead of a line to a specific handset. This later will allow individual handsets to be added to the group or groups which in turn mean access to the lines the group is within.
See #6, and now choose 01-07 (group number) instead of the handset id on the end of step #2. Below is a typical scenario arrangement.
Group 1 = Line 1 = Programming # = 01
Group 2 = Line 2 = Programming # = 02
Group 3 = Line 3 = Programming # = 03
Group 4 = Line 4 = Programming # = 04
Note, out of the box no handsets are part of any groups. You must add groups to each and every handset accordingly. No lines will be available to them unless part of the groups.
To add a group on a handset, press 5, 2 then press ADD to add the group. Press 01 for group 1, and ADD again if you wish to group it to 2 (02) and continue for lines 3, and 4 etc.
With grouping you can remove or add lines (groups) to handsets individually at any time.
(Ref #9) Turning on the broadcast through a base unit line port (available for lines 3 and 4 only): Get an administrator handset (ID 10 or 11), and press menu 9, 2, then choose the base id (primary base is 00, and additional bases are from 01-07), then choose 1. You will then have the choice to turn on line 3, or line 4 broadcasting. Dial in on that line to confirm. Read FAQ #6 also.
(Ref #10) Adding a handset to a group (for broadcasting): On each handset, to add it to a group, or groups, press menu 5, 2, then ADD. You can have up to 7 groups. Group id’s are from 01 through 07.
(Ref #11) Recovering the original handset ID after having a phone repaired:
All phones sent in must be registered to our test base. This causes it lose the registration to your base.
Unless you un-registered the handset ahead of time from your base, your base still thinks that ID is still in use. For example if you have 4 handsets registered as ID 10, 11, 12, and 13 and you send in handset 12 for repair. When you reregister it, you will get ID 14 because it still thinks 12 is in use.
To get your handset registration back to ID 12 you must erase the base information for handset 12, which then frees it up for you to then use.
To erase a registration ID that is stored by the base unit, get an administrative handset (ID 10 or 11) and press Menu 9, 2, then 1 to choose which handset registration ID to clear. In our example it would be extension ID 12.
Now ID12 is clear and available as the next registration ID. The base unit gives ID’s to handsets in numerical order of free ID’s. You can now go to #3 and go through the normal handset registration process.

EnGenius DuraFon 4X FAQ
Q. How far does the Engenius phone system go? Is there a difference with 2 way radio handset to handset versus base communication?
A. Our claimed range is as follows: Up to 250,000 sq. ft. in a warehouse, up to 3000 acres in an open outdoor area, and up to 12 floors in building. This range is assumed using base to handset communication. The 2 way / broadcast from handset is less than a typical incoming call using the base station. Range can be 25% to as much as 75% less. The actual range of the 2 way and broadcast varies just as does our base to handset communication, based on environment.
Q. How can you tell which model handset I have?
A. Remove the battery to verify model and serial number.
Q. How do I register handsets to multiple EnGenius DuraFon 4x bases?
A. A handset can only be registered to one base at a time. If you need multiple base registration, go with the Durafon PRO.
Q. Can the handset be used out of the box without the base unit for 2 way radio?
A. No, handsets require registration ID’s from the same base unit to receive 2 WAY, or broadcasts.
Q. What is the difference between the 4x system and the EnGenius PRO system?
A. The additions to the PRO include:
Speakerphone capability of the PRO handsets.
Multiple base registration (allowing 2 way / broadcast with all, up to 8 total base units), where 4x is limited to base specific.
Broadcast through a line port.
Q. Is there a range difference between models 1x, 4x, and PRO?
A. No, they both perform the same as far as range.
Basic Troubleshooting
First and foremost, if you encounter any issues with the system, do a power reset on both handset(s), and base station.
**How to turn off line detection (if getting the “no lines avail” prompt)
From an admin handset (id 10, or 11), press Menu, 9,2,5, then select “off”.
(Ref #1) Registering handsets: First power-up the base for at least 15 seconds. Now press the register button on the base and hold it until all line lights illuminate. (The button is located on the side that the antenna is attached to, blue in color and letters REG on it) Next, press menu on the handset followed by 6 (register) and 1(register) during the time the lights are lit on the base unit. The display will say register and then new ID. The ID of the handset will be 10 for the first handset registered to base, and will go in consecutive order there after (11, 12, 13 etc.). Up to 90 handsets can be registered to the base. Keep in mind that ID 10 and 11 are the “Administrative handsets”. These handsets have more options than the other handsets. They can dedicate phone lines to specific handsets, turn the auto attendant on or off, and clear or assign ID’s to other handsets.
(Ref #2a) Resetting a handset serial numbers below 071100601: Press menu, * # # *, then 7 (Factory), then 1 (Clear all). The screen will say “cycle power” press the left soft key for OK. After this you will turn the handset off with the bottom left power key and then back on with the same key.
(Ref #2b) Resetting a handset serial numbers above 071100600: Press Menu, 5, star, then 1 (clear all), then power recycle.
(Ref #3) Deregistering a handset: Same procedure as Ref #1, except press menu 6, 2 on the handset. The handset will display “Deregister” The ID of the handset is now removed from the base and the handset. Note, if you can’t deregister the handset because the handset is damaged, please go to Ref #9 after it has been repaired.
(Ref #4) Base station won’t go into registration mode: Make sure only the power light is on with the base station. Do a power reset on the base station. Lastly, reset the base and try again.
(Ref #5) Resetting the base: (required if you no longer have Id 10, or 11 admin handsets and you need to do setting changes) First power-up the base for at least 15 seconds. (Wait until after line lights flash.). You will now need to press the reset button which requires a narrow object with a point, such as a pen or paperclip. The reset button is located on the side of the base that the antenna is attached to, next to the blue register button with the letters RST beneath it. Hold this button down until the line 1 and line 2 lights up, then you can let go of the button. The base is now reset. (Registration will now start at 10 again)
(Ref #6) Dedicating lines to a specific handset: By default all incoming calls will ring all handsets. To program line dedication to a specific line you must use an administrative handset (ID 10, or 11). You need to choose the line, and then the handset id it will be dedicated to. Note, as you dedicate one line to a handset, the other remaining lines still have “all handsets” going to them, including the dedicated handset. You will need to dedicate all lines to have complete direct dialing to each handset exclusively.
With the administrative handset, press Menu, 9, 1, then 4. Use the up/down arrows to choose the line accordingly you wish to dedicate and the handset id it goes to.
NOTE: By resetting the base (the tiny button next to the “REG” button) you will erase all registration and administrative changes including line dedication of handsets.
NOTE: If you wish to dedicate more than one handset to a line, you must use grouping instead (see Ref #7).
(Ref #7) Dedicating line ports to Groups:
(Ref #8) Adding a handset to a group (for broadcasting): On each handset, to add it to a group, or groups, press menu 5, 2, then ADD. You can have up to 7 groups. Group id’s are from 01 through 07.
