Headsets for Landline Phones
Pick the headset for your landline phone, at home or in the office
The right headset for a landline phone depends on the jack. A desk phone with a headset port takes the Plantronics EncorePro HW510 (corded) or the Plantronics CS540 (wireless), and a phone with only a handset port takes a Polaris model such as the PW510, which includes the amplifier. A home cordless phone needs a corded headset and a 2.5 mm cable.

Headset for landline phone: match your phone to the parts
A corded headset can't plug into a landline phone on its own. It ends in a quick-disconnect plug, and something has to join that plug to the phone. Which part you buy depends on your phone, and getting it wrong is the most common reason a landline headset gets sent back.
| Your phone | What you buy | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Desk phone with a headset port and headset key | A corded headset and the bottom cable for your phone | EncorePro HW510 |
| Phone with only a handset port | A headset with an amplifier. Polaris models include one | PW510 for one ear, PW520 for two |
| Corded phone, and you want to walk away from it | A wireless headset, plus a handset lifter or EHS cable to answer | CS540 |
| Home cordless phone with a 2.5 mm jack | A corded headset and a 2.5 mm cable | EncorePro HW510 with a Plantronics 2.5 mm cable |
Corded telephone headsets for desk and office landline phones
Corded is the right default for a landline headset: nothing to charge and nothing to pair. Headsets for corded telephones split into two groups. If the phone has a headset port and a headset key, you need only the matching bottom cable. If it doesn't, an amplifier sits between the handset and the phone, and a Polaris model comes with one.
Poly headsets only work with Poly amplifiers and cables, and Jabra headsets only with Jabra. The quick-disconnect plugs look alike but aren't interchangeable, so a Jabra Biz 1500 with a Poly amplifier is two parts that won't talk to each other. Mono or two ears is a real choice too. The HW510 leaves one ear open so you hear the room, and the HW520 covers both to shut it out.
Wireless headsets for landline phones
A wireless headset needs no amplifier, because its base does that job and plugs into your phone. The CS540 is still the most popular wireless desk phone headset: it weighs 21 grams, reaches up to 350 feet and talks for up to 7 hours. To answer a call from across the room, add an HL10 handset lifter or an EHS cable. The CS540 and HL10 are also sold together as a bundle.
Headsets for home phones and cordless phones
A home cordless phone has a 2.5 mm jack, not a headset port. Many people look for a cordless telephone headset here, but the headset is corded and the cable does the connecting: a Plantronics 2.5 mm quick-disconnect cable for a Plantronics headset, or Jabra's 2.5 mm adapter cord for a Jabra. Check that your phone has the jack before you buy.
A corded one-line home phone, such as the Panasonic KX-TSC11-B, can take a wireless headset instead. Pair it with an HL10 lifter and the headset answers the call for you.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Not directly, because a landline phone has no Bluetooth. A Bluetooth headset for a landline phone comes with a base that plugs into the phone, as the Poly Voyager 5200 Office and the Poly Savi 8240 do.
No. A wireless headset base needs a corded handset to lift, and a cordless phone doesn't have one. A cordless phone takes a corded headset on its 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm jack instead.
