The EncorePro HW710 disappears on your head

By hour six of a shift, a heavy headset announces itself — a hot spot on the crown, a pinch at the ears, the small relief of taking it off. The Plantronics EncorePro HW710 is built to avoid all of that: at 53 grams, with plush leatherette cushions and a nylon-composite frame, it's the premium 700-series EncorePro, made to be worn all day and barely noticed.

It's the mono, over-the-head model at the top of the wired EncorePro line — formerly the HW291N — and like its workhorse siblings, it comes in a version for whatever phone is on your desk. This is the current standard version; the DA90-managed HW710D digital model has been discontinued.

The premium 700-series build

What separates the EncorePro HW710 from the 500-series HW510 is materials. Where the 500 uses foam cushions and an aluminum frame, the HW710 uses plush leatherette ear pads over an ultra-light nylon-composite body, with a reinforced headband and an elegant satin finish — the tier Poly builds to reward top performers and to put on the people who are seen, like a front desk or client-facing team.

53 grams — premium comfort, all-day light

A boom that telescopes and pivots

The microphone isn't just flexible. It telescopes in and out and pivots up and down, so you set it precisely — about a quarter-inch from the corner of your mouth — rather than bending it roughly into place. The low-sitting arm then sits clear of your peripheral vision, out of your sightline through the day, while the noise-canceling mic keeps your background out of the caller's ear.

Leatherette that doesn't fight your hair

The comfort detail you feel but rarely read

Foam cushions tend to stick and tangle in your hair every time you put a headset on or take it off. The HW710's leatherette pads slide over hair cleanly — no snag, no mess — which, across a day of on-and-off, is a small comfort that adds up. They're also softer against the ear over a long shift and wipe clean between users, which matters in a shared or hot-desking environment.

HW710 or HW510 — is the premium worth it?

The EncorePro HW710 is worth the step up when people wear the headset all day, when they're client-facing or at a front desk where the look matters, or when you want to reward your best agents with the most comfortable option. For general call-center use where foam cushions are fine, the HW510 does the same core job for less. Same Quick Disconnect connection, same noise-canceling clarity — the HW710 adds the leatherette comfort, the lighter premium materials, and the polished satin look.

Build the exact EncorePro HW710 you need

Seven versions, and every one is the same premium HW710 headset. The only thing that changes is how it connects to your phone.

  • Universal QD — needs an amplifier or cable. No cable included; add a Plantronics M22 amplifier, a direct-connect cable, or a DA-series USB adapter for softphones — sold separately. (805H7AA#ABA)
  • Avaya 1400 / 2400 / 4600 / 5400 / 9400 / 9500 (and Merlin Magix). Includes the certified Avaya cable for these Avaya digital and IP series, including Merlin Magix. No amplifier. (805H7AA+HIC10)
  • Avaya J100 / 1600 / 9600. Includes the Avaya cable for J139–J189, 1600, and 9600 phones. No amplifier. (805H7AA+HIS)
  • Cisco IP (69xx–99xx). Includes the Cisco cable for the headset port on Cisco IP 69xx / 78xx / 79xx / 88xx / 89xx / 99xx phones. No amplifier. (805H7AA-CIS)
  • Cisco SPA. Includes a 2.5mm cable for Cisco SPA 303, 5xx, and 9xx phones. No amplifier. (805H7AA-SPA)
  • Polycom. Includes the Polycom RJ9 cable for Soundpoint IP and VVX phones. No amplifier. (805H7AA-PO)
  • Yealink. Includes the Yealink RJ9 cable for Yealink SIP-T phones. No amplifier. (805H7AA-YEA)

Does the EncorePro HW710 need an amplifier?

It depends on the version. The phone-specific bundles — Avaya, Cisco, Cisco SPA, Polycom, and Yealink — include the certified cable and plug straight into that phone, no amplifier. The universal QD version includes no cable: its Quick Disconnect needs a Plantronics M22 amplifier, a direct-connect bottom cable, or a DA-series USB adapter for softphones, bought separately.

The ordering mistake to avoid: the universal QD EncorePro HW710 doesn't plug into a phone on its own — it needs an amplifier or cable. If you know your phone, the matching bundle is the simpler buy, with the certified cable already in the box. For a computer or softphone, add a DA-series USB adapter. One more note: this standard HW710 is the current model — the DA90-managed digital HW710D has been discontinued, so if you were considering the digital version, ask us about current alternatives first.

The EncorePro HW710 is the headset you buy when comfort and appearance both count — premium leatherette and nylon-composite materials, a featherweight 53 grams, and a satin finish that looks the part, in the same wired Quick Disconnect line as the rest of the EncorePro family. Match it to your phone, and it's the most comfortable way to keep your best people on the line all day, backed by HeadsetPlus's lifetime support.

  • Plantronics EncorePro HW710 mono noise-canceling headset with Quick Disconnect
  • Soft leatherette ear cushion (fitted)
  • Carry case and quick start guide

What else is in the box depends on the version: the Avaya, Cisco, Cisco SPA, Polycom, and Yealink bundles add the certified adapter cable for that phone, so there's nothing more to buy. The universal QD version includes no cable or amplifier — add an M22 amplifier, a direct-connect cable, or a DA-series USB adapter separately. Replacement leatherette and foam cushions, a clothing clip, and an EncorePro headband support pad are available separately.

Software. With a Poly DA-series USB adapter, the EncorePro HW710 connects to a computer and works with PC softphones and UC platforms — Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex among them — plus Poly Lens or Plantronics Hub for device management. The noise-canceling mic keeps your background out of the caller's audio on any of them.

Hardware. The HW710 ends in a Poly Quick Disconnect. The universal QD version needs an M22 amplifier, a direct-connect cable, or a DA-series USB adapter to reach a phone or PC. The Avaya, Cisco, Cisco SPA, Polycom, and Yealink bundles include the certified cable for that phone. For a both-ear version, see the binaural HW720; the DA90-managed digital HW710D has been discontinued.

Platforms. The EncorePro HW710 is built for premium, telephone-intensive roles — customer care centers, help desks, telesales, reception, and client-facing teams — where all-day comfort and a polished look both matter. Its TAA-compliant build also suits government procurement.
