Review: Plantronics Discovery 655

It’s good to talk. And if you use the Discovery 655 it’s even sweeter. No other Bluetooth headset matches it
When the person you’re calling can’t tell that you’re talking through a Bluetooth headset, you know you’re onto a winner.
Normally, while conversation and sound quality is still very discernible through a Bluetooth headset, the call recipient can still hear faints of echo and signal distortion. Not with the Plantronics Discovery 655. This headset delivers one of the best call performances we’ve ever experienced.
Plantronics warned us it that had considerably improved its Digital Signal Processing (DSP) since the 655’s predecessor, the Discovery 640, a while back, and it’s proved right. It has also radically reworked the curves of the 640 into a more angular, sleek design, while the weight comes in at a floaty-light 9g.
Plantronics has also catered for all our different shaped ears by cleverly bundling a choice of ear-gel configurations. Once you’ve found the perfect fit, the Discovery 655 sits comfortably in the ear – although the majority of users will need the attached ear hook to steady the grip. The ear hook is the only real niggle with the 655’s performance. It’s incredibly flimsy and although it does the job, we’re unsure about its life expectancy.
Overlook this though and the Discovery 655 issues the clearest, brightest call performances we’ve heard. Even in noisy environments, it elevated the recipient’s voice to distinct, sharp levels.
The headset also comes with a fountain pen-like AAA battery charger that will boost its talktime from three to 10 hours.
Plantronics really has set the benchmark on Bluetooth headset call performance with the Discovery 655 and for now rules the roost.
